OVERVIEW - Supply & Installation
of Hi-Res / Network Friendly IP Video Solutions by MOBOTIX |
|
| |
|
|
| |
MOBOTIX AG, a
German company, has designed a revolutionary and cost
efficient high-resolution video system. It is the leading
pioneer in network camera technologies involving a solid
state, computer network friendly, decentralized concept. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
High-Resolution System |
|
| |
The higher the resolution, the more
information contained within an image, and the easier it is
to identify vehicle number plates or facial features. Using
traditional (analog) technology, a live image has no more
than 0.4 megapixels and a recorded image only has 0.1
megapixels (CIF). By comparison, a MOBOTIX camera with 3.1
megapixels records around 30 times more detail. As a result,
larger image areas with up to 360° panorama are possible:
this reduces the number of cameras required, hence and cost.
For example, four lanes of a service station can be recorded
using a single MOBOTIX camera instead of four conventional
cameras.
|
|
| |
With
conventional analog systems, the cameras only supply the
images while the processing and recording is done elsewhere
on a central PC (computer) or DVR using video management
software. This traditional centralized structure is
unsuitable for high-resolution video systems, since it
requires not only high network bandwidth, but also needs
enormous PC processing power to support several cameras. In
addition any fault in the DVR means a complete failure of
all recording. |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
 |
 |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Unlike other
systems, the decentralized MOBOTIX concept incorporates a
high-speed computer and, in many cases, a digital memory (SD
card) for long-term recording inside every camera. The
cameras are connected and powered via a single ethernet
cable (“POE”), and assigned an IP address. The PC is now
used only for viewing, not for analysis or recording. As a
result, MOBOTIX cameras can record events even without a
running PC and digitally record videos with sound for
archiving purposes. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
MOBOTIX video
solutions therefore require significantly: |
|
| |
- fewer
cameras due to the highly accurate detail of wide-angle
images with megapixel technology,
- fewer
PCs/DVRs, because around 40 cameras can store
high-resolution video with sound
efficiently on a single PC, or no PC at all when
recording on the camera's digital storage,
- lower
network bandwidth, because everything is processed in
the camera itself and the highresolution
images therefore do not have to be constantly
transferred for analysis.
|
|
| |
Robust and
Low-Maintenance |
|
| |
MOBOTIX
cameras have no moving parts, they are so robust that
maintenance is reduced to a minimum. The unique temperature
range from -30° to +60°C (-22° to +140°F) is achieved
without heating or fan at only 3 watts power consumption.

Mobotix'
digital high resolution video camera technology is well
suited to the hospitality industry, and in Adelaide has
already been installed at the recently renovated Grand
Chifley Hotel on South Terrace, Adelaide, as well as at the
Albion Hotel, Churchill Road, Kilburn. |

It will be of
interest to many hotel operators that H&L, a leading
provider of hotel POS equipment and software was awarded the
"Mobotix Solution of the Year 2008" at a partner conference
in Sydney in Feb. 2009. H&L achieved this with the latest
version of its software which successfully integrates with
the Mobotix cameras to record an Exceed transaction; view a
Mobotix camera from Exceed anywhere in the venue; and allow
footage to be replayed on demand from the Audit Trail with
the transaction detail embedded in the footage. We will be
pleased to provide a copy of a separate H&L document to
explain this.

Older hotels
in Europe have successfully introduced Mobotix video
security systems: analogue cameras used previously have been
replaced because of their high maintenance, low resolution,
large memory requirements, difficulties in evaluating
recordings, and the centralised nature of the recording
technology.
The time is right to consider introducing a (computer
network) IP-based structure, capable of fulfilling future
requirements, while also able to impress hotel operators
with vastly technical superiority, and demonstrated cost
benefits in terms of procurement and operation.
With conventional analog systems, the cameras only supply
the images while the processing and recording is done
elsewhere on a central PC (computer) or DVR using video
management software. This traditional centralized structure
is unsuitable for high-resolution video systems, since it
requires not only high network bandwidth, but also needs
enormous PC processing power to support several cameras. In
addition any fault in the DVR means a complete failure of
all recording. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Unlike other
systems, the decentralized MOBOTIX concept incorporates a
high-speed computer and, in many cases, a digital memory (SD
card) for long-term recording inside every camera. The
cameras are connected and powered via a single Ethernet
cable (“POE”), and assigned an IP address. The PC is now
used only for viewing, not for analysis or recording. As a
result, MOBOTIX cameras can record events even without a
running PC and digitally record videos with sound for
archiving purposes. |

MOBOTIX video
solutions therefore require significantly: |
|
| |
- fewer
cameras due to the highly accurate detail of wide-angle
images with megapixel technology,
- fewer
PCs/DVRs, because around 40 cameras can store
high-resolution video with sound

the camera itself and the highresolution
images therefore do not have to be constantly
transferred for analysis.
|
|
| |
With Mobotix systems, video data is
transferred from the cameras to a network attached hard
drive storage device, and the data may be viewed from any
computer on the network. |

Management at
the Le Méridien Parkhotel in Frankfurt, Germany have been
enthusiastic: “We have never seen such clear pictures on the
surveillance monitors here at!" Many of their cameras have
been inconspicuously installed and perform their work
without any flashing LEDs. In just a short time, the clear
24-hour view of the hotel’s key areas had produced desired
outcomes for administration, documentation and security. The
concierge is especially pleased with the new cameras
enabling much better monitoring of access to the parking
area and the underground car park. To the great amazement of
suppliers, tradesmen and staff, he often opens the barrier
to familiar faces before they have even
pressed the intercom button. The image clarity delivered by
the cameras and their ability to adapt to the constantly
changing lighting conditions are what make this possible. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
MOBOTIX
provides its camera users with a free sophisticated software
package for professional video and alarm management . Up to
30 camera images in CIF format can be displayed
simultaneously on a 1920x1200 pixel screen at an image rate
of 30 Hz simultaneously. An integrated layout editor allows
the user to adjust the settings to their individual display
preferences. Camera symbols, for example, can be inserted
into a building plan, which significantly increases ease of
orientation. |

INTEGRATED SECURITY
CAMERAS |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Imagine a
system where POS units could tell cameras to start
recording, have every key stroke embedded into the recorded
image and then have the POS unit tell the camera to stop
recording. Add to this the ability to view an integrated
camera from any Point of Sale screen in the venue and be
able to replay recorded footage of any transaction from the
POS Audit Trail on the back of house server.
Too good to be true? Well, H&L Australia and Mobotix have
joined forces to deliver such a system. |
 |
|
| |
This
partnership has been driven by industry demand as POS, Staff
and Customer surveillance becomes more important. Cameras
that can record two images at and cameras with hemispheric
lenses that can record everything in a 10 metre radius are
being installed in hotels and taverns across Australia. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
IP Megapixel
Camera Technology, which allows images to be magnified many
more times than standard CCTV footage, is the future today.
When integrated into Point of Sale systems the possibilities
are limitless. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Dual lens
cameras can have one lens aimed at the POS unit and cash
drawer, while the other lens is aimed at the spirit rail
where staff are dispensing. With the transactions embedded
on the recording, management have a clear view of what is
dispensed, what is delivered and what has been processed at
the POS unit. Alternatively one lens could be aimed at the
counter to prevent situations where a customer purchases
multiple items and returns later claiming they left an item
behind. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The Back of
House Audit Trail can be filtered to show sales, no sales,
sales of a particular item, sales at a specified time and
sales by a particular user. A simple right click on the
transaction will then retrieve and play the recording. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
 |
|
| |
This Cutting
Edge integration between IP Megapixel Camera Technology and
Point of Sale solutions, offers Hoteliers a complete tool to
monitor the security of their venue, staff and patrons
without expensive DVR’s or footage that is unrecognisable
due to old CCTV technology - and it’s as easy as pressing a
button! |

IN A
NUTSHELL |
|
| |
- H&L
Mobotix camera integration is a POS surveillance product
aimed at providing a Hi-Resolution footage with
keystroke overlay embedded in the footage.
- Use of
the dual lens (D12) camera provides footage over the
Point of Sale unit as well as down the bar or across the
counter. By viewing down the bar it can be seen clearly
if a spirit was added to a post mix sale.
- Camera
footage is linked to transactions in Audit Trail so that
search features in Audit Trail can be utilised to find
users, no sales or specific PLU’s. Right clicking on the
transaction allows you play back the footage within
Audit Trail.
- Exceed
now has live view buttons for the cameras. Giving
Managers the ability to view a Mobotix camera in any
location.
